In a small village of India, a man sells fruits on the streets. Employed as a laborer by various people, he is able to send his son through school thanks to the financial help he receives from his employers. However, despite running the successful fruit business in this community for forty years, when an automatic washing machine washes away his entire stock in one fell swoop; Mr. Khan has no other choice but start over again. His son then begs him to borrow money from their savings account to purchase another machine but he refuses saying that it would be worthwhile for them if they can save up enough money without relying on others' generosity. His son then asks his mother to buy the machine but she refuses saying that if their savings are depleted, they would have no choice but to send him to Kerala where his father would have work. As he continues to sell fruits on the streets, Mr. Khan accidentally comes across a woman who has fallen down and is badly injured. She offers him a diamond ring as payment for his services and he accepts it despite taking offense at her evil intentions. His son later finds out he had accepted the diamond and tries to dissuade him from accepting it. He fails and later that night, Mr. Khan asks his son to try and pawn the diamond. His son does but a local merchant tells him he'll sell it to some other man, not knowing that this merchant also wants the same diamond. As Mr. Khan continues to deal with the betrayal of some of his former employers while trying to maintain a fresh start for his family, he eventually finds himself knocked down by all of this. Meanwhile, Chirag's younger brother is about to get married and they need 20 Lakh rupees so they can buy the land where their house stands to construct a new house on it. They borrow from a local moneylender who refuses to give the 20 Lakh rupees they need. Chirag's girlfriend's sister somehow hears about this and decides to help them. In exchange for some of their land, she makes a deal with the moneylender to give the 20 Lakhs. She later learns from Chirag that he has been arranging for Mr. Khan's son to earn the money as a domestic servant and soon after she convinces him that people like Mr. Khan deserve rewards and not just handouts and that if they don't earn it themselves then they can't be worthy of it anyway. Chirag's girlfriend's sister then comes up with a plan to try and trap Mr. Khan: she tells him that if he can save enough money with no help from anyone, he can have his wife and children stay in a small cottage for all of their lives. Once again Mr. Khan rejects the idea saying that others' charity would not make him better than his own generation and that is why they were obligated to work hard to achieve what they deserved in life. He also tells her that they don't need her or anybody else's kindness; instead its people like them who deserve kindness and appreciation. cfa1e77820
